IAAP Las Colinas Chapter is ”Committed to the Mission”
“If I put a sponge in the middle of my kitchen floor, it will absorb whatever comes in contact with it. But its effectiveness is diminished if the spill occurs four feet away next to the counter. If I intentionally place the sponge where it is needed, the sponge will then be pursuing its mission and fulfilling the purpose for which it was made.
You could also say the sponge is committed to absorbing all that it possibly can. It won’t stop absorbing until every cell of the sponge is fully saturated. The sponge then takes on new abilities and characteristics. Once saturated it becomes flexible, soft, and can easily glide across surfaces. It now performs in a way that was not possible before it was committed to its mission.”
As administrative professionals we have the opportunity to absorb new knowledge and skill sets by expanding our roles and striving to provide value-driven efficiency to our employers. Our role in today’s business culture is flexible and adaptable. I encourage you to embrace this year’s IAAP International Theme and discover the Power of Commitment. Through your commitment to leadership opportunities, educational sessions, and becoming a vital part of our community, you will learn to harness this power and redefine your personal career mission.
Commitment is a part of the core values of IAAP, which state: “We are steadfast in our goals to develop learning opportunities for career-minded administrative professionals and to strengthen efficiency and effectiveness.” Without involvement, there is no commitment. I encourage you to increase your involvement in the IAAP community this year. Sign in to the new web community, update your profile, send me a message and I will see you next month at the chapter networking and educational session.
Bring your sponge, and SOAK IT UP!
