Foundation Report

An update on The Foundation of IAAP

By Kelly Reggio posted Tue, Nov 25, 2014 10:26 AM

I wanted to bring you up to date on the activities of The Foundation of IAAP and what we’ve been doing to support IAAP and those working in the administrative profession.

We approved two new grants for IAAP last month. The first project is the IAAP CAP Exam and CAP Exam Review Guide. The IAAP CAP Exam and certification is a distinction that sets administrative professionals above the rest of their colleagues. It’s an investment in your career that shows employers, clients, and coworkers commitment to the administrative profession. First, IAAP is updating the CAP Exam to create learning outcomes. This will define exactly what skills are mastered by passing the CAP exam. The new, comprehensive CAP Review Guide will ensure Exam applicants have the tools to prepare for this challenging, yet rewarding exam. The Foundation approved funding for $194,000 to support the progress of this certification initiative.

The Foundation previously funded a grant for the CAP Review Guide. That money went to fund viability studies for the Review Guide. These studies needed to be completed before the actual creation of the study guide. This new grant greatly expands on the first by also updating the exam as well as completing the work on the Review Guide.

The second grant is for a new leadership initiative: the IAAP Leadership Academy. The IAAP Leadership Academy will instruct and mentor administrative professionals to become leaders in IAAP and in the workplace, and to excel in every aspect of their life. More information about the IAAP Leadership Academy will be released in spring of 2015. The grant for the leadership initiative totaled $112,500.

That’s not all. We also increased the number of scholarships to the IAAP Summit (formerly called EFAM). See the recent announcement on the 2015 scholarship program for more information.

The Foundation of IAAP invests in the success of IAAP and those working in the administrative profession, with ongoing support to administrative professionals through research, education and community based initiatives.

As the year draws to an end please consider a donation to The Foundation to allow us to continue our support of those working in the administrative profession. Whether it’s an individual donation or chapter donation, all the money we receive is invested in the success of those working in the profession. We appreciate your contribution, large or small, to the mission of The Foundation.

Visit us at www.iaap-foundation.org to donate online or for more information about The Foundation.

Executive Assistant - Great Job If You Can Get It

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects this profession to lose 10,500 jobs, or decline by 1 percent, by the year 2022. This is largely due to companies replacing executive assistants with administrative assistants, who earn an average of $16,600 less per year and may support more than one manager in an organization. In addition, many managers these days handle tasks that were previously in the realm of executive assistants, such as scheduling their own travel and meetings.  READ MORE

Professional Certification

Strategic Plan 2013-2018:
Goal 3 - Professional Development & Certification

Starting in March 2015, the IAAP CAP certification and OM specialty exams will become available through computer-based testing. Candidates will apply for the exam through IAAP and then schedule a testing time through Pearson Vue with secure testing centers and a consistent delivery system with testing locations throughout North America and select international locations.

The move to computer-based testing will allow for additional testing dates. Dates and times will depend on each testing center's availability.

Spring exams will be offered March 2-7, 2015. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2014.  JUST RELEASED OCT 10:  MORE INFO

Fall exams will be offered August 31-September 5, 2015. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2015.

There will be no exam in November 2014.
The process...Jennifer Mikic advises Candidates must first apply for the exam through IAAP to be approved for testing. The deadline to apply is December 1; or December 8 with a late fee.  All approved candidates will receive an MRA ID# from IAAP around mid-December. This ID# will be needed to create a Web account with Pearson.

Around late December, IAAP will share the names of all approved candidates and their MRA ID# with Pearson.  Pearson will add the approved candidate names into their system, and then candidates can begin scheduling testing appointments starting January 5.

Candidates can view the locations of Pearson Vue sites by selecting Locate a Test Center
located in the right column. However, candidates should NOT contact the testing center directly at this time. The staff who work at the Pearson testing centers do not have access to IAAP exam details until that information has been shared with them - which will be in late December.

For more:  IAAP Exam Guide    Any questions relating to the exam should be direct to
certification@iaap-hq.org.
